Music in the Chapel Series: 2015 - 2016 at The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer

The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Hyde Park offers a Music in the Chapel concert series every year.  The programs are free and open to the public.

Music Director L. Brett Scott met with a Music Committee to determine programs for the Music in the Chapel 2015 – 2016 series.  The committee decided they wanted a wide variety of music to present to the public and to the parish.  Opening program on October 11 was a jazz concert by University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music students.

"Opera Fusion: New Works" to Continue

"Opera Fusion: New Works," the groundbreaking collaboration between Cincinnati Opera and the opera department at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music designed to nurture new American opera will continue thanks to the renewal of a $300,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.  Since its beginning in 2011, the initiative has presented six new operas in workshop and will continue this fall with "Shalimar the Clown" with music by Jack Perla and libretto by Rajiv Joseph. A free public reading of excerpts from the work will take place at the newly renovated Transept in Over-the-Rhine.

CSO's "One City, One Symphony" Returns

"One City, One Symphony," a Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra project inaugurated in November, 2012, returns to Music Hall in Cincinnati Nov. 13 and 14 at Music Hall. 
Inaugurated in 2012 to welcome Louis Langrée, then CSO music director designate, “One City, One Symphony” comprises a series of events leading up to the concert itself. They include listening parties, distribution of materials and broadcasts by WGUC 90.9 FM of recordings of works to be heard on the concert. CSO/CCM Program Designed to Increase Minorities in Orchestras

The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music are taking action to help increase the representation of African-American and Latino musicians in the nation's symphony orchestras. Beginning in 2016, the CSO/CCM Diversity Fellowship Program will entail performances with the CSO. mentorship by CSO musicians, and simultaneous enrollment in a master's or artist diploma degree program at CCM.

It has been more than half a century since Cincinnati Opera presented a world premiere. Making its debut June 30 is "Morning Star" by Ricky Ian Gordon, with seven performances through July 19 at in Corbett Theater at the School for Creative and Performing Arts.

Ukraine took the gold in the Cincinnati World Piano Competition July 13 in Corbett Auditorium at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Winning $20,000 in cash and a solo recital in New York City was Ukrainian born Artem Yasynskyy, 26, with a performance of Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1.
