Building on its
popularity since its inception in August 2012, the Washington Platform Friday
Night Jazz Series has expanded to Saturday nights.
Beginning this month, performances -- which span “Latin to vocal jazz, from straight-ahead to groove jazz” -- will take place on both Friday and Saturday nights from 9 p.m. to midnight.
Held at the
1860s-era restaurant at the corner of Court and Elm Streets downtown, the
Washington Platform series regularly features the area’s top jazz performers.
Among them have been Rob Allgeyer, Chris Barrick, Melvin Broach, Rusty Burge,
Dan Faehnle, Tony Franklin, Art Gore, Pat Kelly, Jim Leslie, William Menefield,
Kim Pensyl, John Taylor, Mike Wade and Gary Winters.
The restaurant’s location just south of Central Parkway makes it a natural “bridge” between newly revitalized Over-the-Rhine and downtown and a convenient venue for before and after arts and entertainment events, including Music Hall, Memorial Hall and the School for Creative and Performing Arts. In addition, patrons have access to free adjacent parking on the northwest corner of Elm and Court Streets.
Here’s the schedule for Saturday nights through April 2014:
March 1 – Phil DeGreg Quartet
March 8 – vocalist Pamela Mallory and pianist Wayne Yeager
March 15 – vocalist Andrea Cefalo
March 22 – Pianist Steve Schmidt
March 29 -- The Gary Gorrel Quartet
April 5 – Boogie-woogie pianist Ricky Nye
