When the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra made tickets available to the general public June 9 for Lumenocity, 2014, the repeat of its fabulously successful free light and sound show presented August 3 and 4, 2013 in Washington Park, they got a big surprise.

There were over 300,000 visits to the lumenocity2014.com website. Event capacity (37,500) was reached in an astonishing twelve minutes.

Stunned by the response, the event planners went back to the drawing board and expanded access to Lumenocity 2014, which will take place on three nights this year: August 1-3 at 8:30 p.m. in Washington Park.

Announced by CSO president Trey Devey at a press conference July 10 at Music Hall, new options will include live television and radio broadcasts, remote simulcasts on giant outdoor LED screens, live webcasts and the issuance of 5,000 tickets for the Lumenocity dress rehearsal July 31 and 3,300 new tickets for the Aug. 1-3 performances in Washington Park.

“It is our goal to reach as many people as possible with Lumenocity and highlight the extraordinary creative energy of our community,” said Devey.

Details are as follows:

August 1 – Radio station WGUC FM 90.9 will broadcast Lumenocity live. The broadcast will cover the entire performance. The first half will feature conductor John Morris Russell leading the Cincinnati Pops and guest performers. The second half will feature music director Louis Langrée conducting the CSO in a 40-minute program of music by Copland, John Adams, Tchaikovsky, Elgar and Borodin. Note: This special broadcast will also allow people living downtown with a view of Music Hall to both see and hear it from a distance.

August 2 – CET public television will air the second half of Lumenocity live, starting at 9:30 p.m.

August 3 – For the final performance, there will be simulcasts on the LED board at Fountain Square and the five recently installed LED boards at the Riverbend Music Center lawn. This live feed will cover the entire performance.

On the Worldwide Web – Lumenocity will be carried via live web stream to people around the world for all three performances at lumenocity2014.com. The live web stream will begin at 8:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on all three days.

Dress rehearsal July 31 – The CSO is distributing 5,000 free tickets to the Lumenocity dress rehearsal on July 31. They will be available via a ticket drawing managed by the accounting firm of Clark, Schaefer, Hackett & Co. To register, visit lumenocity2014.com until 10 p.m. July 15 (one registration per household).

All three performances – The CSO is also distributing 3,300 free tickets for the August 1-3 performances. To register, visit lumenocity2014.com until 10 p.m. July 15 and specify which performance you wish to attend, August 1, 2 or 3 or the dress rehearsal (one registration per household). Note: Patrons who have already reserved tickets will not be eligible for the drawing. Winners will be notified July 21. On July 30, they will receive one-time-use online redemption codes to access and print tickets.

In addition to the lumenocity2014.com web site, the CSO has set up a Lumenocity telephone information line at (513) 744-3372.

The inaugural Lumenocity on August 3 and 4, 2013, presented in honor of then-incoming CSO music director Langrée, featured live performances by the CSO and Cincinnati Pops, led by Langrée and Russell. On the second (CSO) half, visual animations were projected onto the façade of Music Hall, creating a spectacular show for the over 35,000 people who attended the two performances.
