Presented in conjunction with St. Peter in Chains   Cathedral's "Great Music in a Great Space" series, this rare, staged performance of Bach's "St. Matthew Passion" (a Midwest premiere) is directed by Jennifer Williams, CCM artist diploma student in opera stage direction.  CCM faculty artist William McGraw sings Jesus, with Ian McEuen and Shawn Milynek as dual Evangelists.  Admission is $15 in advance, $20 day os the performance, $5 non-UC students, UC students free. Guest conductor (and CSO alumnus) Pinchas Steinberg leads the CSO and May Festival Chorus in Prokofiev's "Alexander Nevsky," a cantata extracted from his score for the classic Sergei Eisenstein film.  Soloist is mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke.  Also on the program, which concludes the CSO's Russian Festival, is Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 1 ("Winter Daydreams").  The Nov. 17 concert includes complimentary buffet dinner beginning at 6:15 p.m.  Tickets start at $10 and are available at (513) 381-3300 and online at www.cincinnatisymphony.org

The global phenomenon Classical Revolution is celebrating its 5th anniversary.  Founded in 2006 in San Francisco to take classical music to places where people are, such as bars, cafes, etc., the Cincinnati chapter is one of 17 in cities across the U.S. and in Canada and Europe. Performances are the second Sunday in each month at 8 p.m. at Northside Tavern.  Hear CR organizer Laura Sabo in jazz innovator Eric Dolphy's "God Bless the Child" for solo bass clarinet, also the Elysium Saxophone Quartet, Ohio River Brass Quintet and the Revolution String Quartet. Opera Fusion: New Works

"Doubt" by Douglas Cuomo and John Patrick Shanley

"Doubt," based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play "Doubt: A Parable" by John Patrick Shanley, is an opera in progress by composer Douglas J. Cuomo and librettist Shanley.  It is the result of the Opera Fusion: New Works program created in May, 2001 by Cincinnati Opera and CCM to foster the development of new American opera.  The performances are the culmination of a ten-day workshop utilizing the resources of Cincinnati Opera and CCM.  Admission is free, but reservations are required.  Contact the Cincinnati Opera box office at (513) 241-2742. Introduction/benefit for the Requiem Project, newly organized, comprehensive effort to restore and revive historic Emery Theatre in Over-the-Rhine.  Doors open at 6:30 for tours, art exhibits and information about the building, which was home to the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra from 1912-36.  At 8 p.m. there will be a theatrical presentation featuring Over the Rhine (the band), Madcap Puppet Theater, Exhale Dance Tribe, concert:nova, Peter Adams and others.  Tickets are available in four packages beginning at $75 for concert admission to $500 for concert, cocktails, dinner, after-party, program acknowledgement, etc.
