Cincinnati Opera closes its 2011 summer festival with Mozart's "The Magic Flute," to be sung in German with English surtitles and English dialogue. The cast includes soprano Nicole Cabell as Pamina, with tenor Shawn Mathey as Tamino. Singing the Queen of the Night, a role she sang recently at New York's Metropolitan Opera, is soprano Audrey Luna in her Cincinnati Opera debut. Conducting will be Bernard Labadie, who led  the Met's"Magic Flute." The production is from Indiana University Opera Theater. Tickets are $26-160. Classical Guitar Recital Series

CCM's annual Classical Guitar Workshop features a series of six recitals designed to showcase the guitar as a solo instrument and as a chamber music/guitar ensemble member. Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin" is the third  opera of Cincinnati Opera's 2011 summer festival.  Timing is everything in this story, based on the verse novel by Alexander Pushkin, in which a young girl (Tatyana) falls in love too soon and the objection of her affection (Eugene Onegin) falls in love too late.  Starring as Onegin is baritone Nathan Gunn, with Moscow native Tatiana Monogarova as Tatyana. World Piano Competition

The Artist Division of the annual World Piano Competition is July 12-17 in Jarson-Kaplan Theater at the Aronoff Center for the Arts. The schedule:  Preliminaries, July 12-13, 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2:30-5:30 p.m. Quarterfinals, July 14, 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2:30-6:30 p.m. Semifinals, July 15, 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and 3-6 p.m. Finals concert, July 17, 3 p.m. All events take place in Jarson-Kaplan Theater. World Choir Games Countdown
July 11 -- 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The clock will start ticking on the World Choir Games, to be held July 4-24, 2012 in Cincinnati, at this special event on Fountain Square. Meet Whirl, official mascot of the 2012 World Choir Games, and view the unveiling of the Countdown Clock, to be installed on Fountain Square through the completion of the Games in 2012. At noon, host Drew Lachey will introduce performers, including Gospel recording artist Byron Cage and members of the Cincinnati Citywide Mass Choir, the Eleventh Hour Choir from Kettering, Ohio and singer/songwriter Kelly King. There will be strolling choirs and booths celebrating the region's international heritage. Limited edition pins commemorating the Countdown will be introduced to provide opportunities for pin trading (modeled after pin-trading at the Olympic Games). Produced by INTERKULTUR, based in Germany, and held every two years, the World Choir Games is the largest international choral competition in the world. This will be
the first time the event has been held in the United States.

The Kentucky Symphony Orchestra led by music director James R.
