July takes off with a boom -- the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra's "Red, White and Boom," to be exact, on the Fourth of July  -- and continues with opera, including Cincinnati Opera's blockbuster "Aida" at Music Hall and
Philip Glass' "Galileo Galilei" at the School for Creative and Performing Arts, a Britten salute with tenor Marco Panuccio, Dvorak with the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, the newly re-organized World Piano Competition, the "Art of the Piano" recital series at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and a burst of community concerts.
 
Set to ignite on the music scene in July:

The Kentucky Symphony Orchestra led by music director James R. Cassidy opens its summer season with music of Antonin Dvorak. Hear his Slavonic Dance No. 8, the finale of his Cello Concerto in B Minor, performed by Benjamin Fryxell, the cantata “The American Flag” (seven short movements on a poem by Joseph Drake) -- a regional premiere -- and the Symphony No. 9, “from the New World,” in its entirety. The concert opens with “The Pledge of Allegiance” in a musical setting by KSO pianist Steve Hinnenkamp. Joining the KSO will be the KSO Chorale and Voices of the Commonwealth. The World Piano Competition, founded in Cincinnati in 1956, has entered into a collaboration with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. The 2013 event begins July 8 with round 1 of the artist division. Jurors are Frederic Chiu, Kyung-sook Lee, Ursula Oppens, Stephen Prutsman and Robert Weirich. "Galileo Galilei" by Philip Glass

Philip Glass' 2002 chamber opera, "Galileo Galilei" about the great Italian scientist convicted of heresy by the Inquisition for arguing that the Sun moves around the Earth, will be heard in its Cincinnati Opera debut. A new production by Cincinnati Opera, it also marks Cincinnati Opera's first performances in intimate Corbett Theater at the School for Creative and Performing Arts. A cast of nine will sing 23 roles, including  tenor Richard Troxell as Old Galileo, baritone Andrew Garland as Young Galileo,
