Cincinnati Pops at Riverbend and Mozart at the University of Cincinnati

Washington Park
This collaborative concert by the four tenants of Music Hall celebrates
the opening of restored and renovated Washington Park in Over-the-Rhine.
The performance, to be led by Cincinnati Pops conductor
John Morris Russell,
will take place on a large, temporary stage on the Elm Street Plaza
just opposite Music Hall. Cincinnati Opera artistic director
Evans Mirageas will host the event. Soloists from the Opera's just-completed Summer Festival, soprano
Jacqueline Echols, tenor
Luther Lewis and baritone
Reginald Smith, Jr.
, will perform excerpts from "La Traviata" and "Porgy and Bess."
Cincinnati Ballet will present three selections choreographed by associate artistic director
Devon Carney, including the pas de trois from act one of Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake." The
May Festival Chorus will sing "Shenandoah and "Battle Hymn of the Republic," and Russell will lead the
Cincinnati Pops in favorites such as Charles Ives' "Variations on America" and "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy." Admission is free.

The Kentucky Symphony Orchestra's
Newport Ragtime Band led by KSO music director
James R. Cassidy promises an evening of fun with this back-to-the-past blast from the 1920s. Jazz singer
Kathy Wade will be heard in tunes by Shelton Brooks and Irving Berlin, actor
Deondra Means in tunes by Clarence Muse and Cab Calloway. Close harmony girl trio
JetSetGetSet will pay tribute to the Brox and Boswell
Sisters. Actor
Matt Dentino will
recreate Al Jolson in a medley of Jolson hits, and the 1922 silent film
comedy "Golf" will be screened with a new instrumental score by KSO
arranger and pianist
Scot Woolley.
There will be an audience sing-a-long of early 1900s classics, too,
with projected lyrics. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. Concessions will
be available at the new concession and restroom pavilion. Park-and-ride
shuttle service available from Covington Catholic High School from 6 to
7:30 p.m. before the concert, returning at approximately 9:30 p.m.
afterwards, for $1 each way. A $5 donation per person is suggested.
