August, 2013, in Cincinnati is "LumenoCity," a free multi-media spectacular August 3 and 4 in Washington Park to introduce the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra's 14th music director, Louis Langrée. It will be a digitally created light and sound show using Music Hall as the backdrop, with music by the CSO led by Langrée and Cincinnati Pops conductor John Morris Russell.

Music Hall will be the canvas for this event, which celebrates the arrival of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra's 13th music director, Louis
Langrée. Digitally created visual effects will accompany the CSO, which will be joined by members of the May Festival Chorus,  dancers from Cincinnati Ballet and singers from Cincinnati Opera. Langrée will share conducting with Cincinnati Pops conductor John Morris Russell. The program will include "Sunrise" from Richard Strauss' "Also sprach Zarathustra" (also known as the theme from "2001")  the fourth movement of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4, Copland’s "Variations on a Shaker Melody" from "Appalachian Spring," the finale of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, Ravel’s "Bolero," Gershwin’s "An American in Paris" and selections from Broadway and film. The event is believed to be the first-ever use of a live orchestra in conjunction with visual digital technology. Said Steve McGowan of Landor Associates, which is creating the visual effects: "Lumenocity will blur the lines between visual and performance art, creating an urban experience that shines a light on our creative community." Goat Rodeo Sessions makes its Cincinnati debut at Riverbend Music Center's PNC Pavilion. The Grammy-winning ensemble, made up of cellist Yo Yo Ma, bassist Edgar Meyer, violinist Stuart Duncan and mandolinist Christ Thile, blends classical music with popular music, including bluegrass. They will be joined by vocalist Aoife O'Donovan. Goat rodeo is defined by Ma as "if there were forks in the road, and each time there was a fork, the right decision was made, then you get to a goat rodeo." Tickets are $73, $63 and $53 at the door.

Hear music of the circus along with circus acts themselves in this outdoor extravaganza, encoring its first Devou Park performance in 2010. James R. Cassidy leads the KSO in everything from "Entry of the Gladiators" by Julius Fucik to movie and TV favorites, Jelly Roll Morton's "Black Bottom Stomp," Adele Adkins' "Someone Like You," pop, jazz and Cirque du Soleil tunes while aerialists fly, jugglers juggle and acrobats dazzle for a mini-greatest show on earth. International circus star Christian Stoinev and his chihuahua Scooby will perform, as will aerial acrobat Omar Fuentes, 2012 U.S. National Wheel Gymnastics champion Luisina Rosas and numerous others, organized by Circus Mojo in Ludlow.. Vocalist Michelle Wells joins the KSO. Admission is free, $5 donation suggested. Bring blankets or lawn chairs. A shuttle will run from Covington Catholic High School from 6-7:30 p.m. and return after the concert for $1 each way.
