Paavo Järvi spent part of the summer before his fifth season in Cincinnati teaching conducting master classes in his native Estonia. He goes native (i.e. unshod) here with conducting students Mark Heron of the United Kingdom and Holger Kaasik of Finland.
There was no touring during the 2005-06 Cincinnati Symphony season but there were plenty of meaty programs for the Music Hall audience in Cincinnati. One of them: Shostakovich's Symphony No. 7, "Leningrad," in November.
Järvi's recordings with the CSO continued to be imaginatively conceived (and well received). Their Dvorak-Martinu album was named Record of the Month by Grammophone magazine. Another fine pairing was Concertos for Orchestra by Bartok and Witold Lutoslawski.
