Accent10 (AccentX), the annual chamber music festival for college and advanced high school students at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, is charged and ready to go.

The festival begins June 11 and continues through June 16 at CCM.

Organized by artistic director/violist Dorotea Vismara Hoffman, super-charged might be a better word for the event.  As in past years, Accent10 will give students the opportunity to perform alongside a distinguished group of artists and ensembles and participate with them in master classes and coaching sessions.  And more than ever, new music is a part of the equation

All concerts and master classes are free and open to the public.

Heading the Accent10 guest list are violinist Jorja Fleezanis and composer Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon.

Fleezanis, former concertmaster of the Minnesota Orchestra, now professor of violin at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, will teach a variety of classes, including orchestral excerpts and chamber music pedagogy.  She will participate in the opening faculty recital June 11 in CCM’s Watson Hall.

Muldoon, professor of composition at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, heads the New Music Division.  He will hold a daily composition seminar and offer private lessons to composition students, who will have the opportunity to hear their music performed at Accent10.

Both Fleezanis and Muldoon have Cincinnati connections.  Fleezanis was the first concertmaster of the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra.  Muldoon formerly served on the composition faculty at CCM.

Ensembles in residence for Accent10 are the Carpe Diem and Rhine String Quartets.  Carpe Diem is quartet-in-residence at Ohio Wesleyan University.  The Rhine Quartet, comprising members of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, is quartet-in-residence at Northern Kentucky University.

In addition to guest artists and ensembles, the faculty for Accent10 includes CCM faculty artists and members of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.

New to AccentX this year is Mark Gibson, director of orchestral studies at CCM.

Concurrent with Accent10 is Crescendo10, a parallel program for younger musicians, who will also have classes and will participate in the Accent10 Orchestra led by Gibson.
